We had a number of social action projects taking place around Norfolk as part of the Newday youth event at the Norfolk Showground in 2011.

Young people assisted the Frantik Kids' Club in running a holiday club for 5-11 year olds, titled 'Horrible Histories - Fabulous Futures'.

'Fun in the Park'

King's Community Church hosted a family fun afternoon in Peterson Park. This involved sport activities, live music, drama performances, food and childrens craft activities like face painting & balloon sculpture.

Three days of sports and team games in Peterson Park involving young people from the area. Young people helped co-ordinate training, team activities and matches.

'Show in a week'

Young people helped 'Loose Change Youth Theatre' in a five-day drama workshop for young people from Mile Cross.

'The Big Clean Up'

Young people helped with four days of clearance at Peterson Park and the surrounding streets, with communal areas and local residents' gardens being tidied and cleared of rubbish.

'The Big Clean Up', Catton

Young people helped local residents in Catton clear front gardens and paint fences. The final day (Saturday) was a planting scheme day.

Creating a Cleaner Community, Bowthorpe

Young people were engaged in a variety of environmental tasks throughout Bowthorpe, Norwich including litter picking, tidying up community and recreational areas, tidying gardens of the elderly, and work in Bowthorpe Heritage Community Garden. In addition some young people spent some time working with other young people at St. Michael’s School holiday club and at the Football Development Centre.

Botesdale & Rickinghall Village Outreach

Young people took part in a variety of activities that served the local village community, in particular helping with the monthly car wash and cafe event run by Parkview Chapel.

'Big Summer Clean', Great Yarmouth

This project joined with local people and volunteers to help clean up an area of the Magdalene Estate in Great Yarmouth, particularly helping clear gardens of local residents.

Family Fun Days, Hellesdon

Young people helped run the fun days for all ages. Lots of games and activities for children, crèche provided for very little ones, pampering session and refreshments for parents.

Fun Day & Gardening, Poringland

Young people helped with gardening including cutting lawns and hedges, weeding, path clearing and general tasks, to help local residents and the local community. Also at a Community Fun Day on the Saturday.

Young people were able to read books, play/perform music, play games, serve drinks, chat or just sit and listen with elderly people at a luncheon club.
