Newday On the Road

Newday On the Road

Friday 12th February saw around 400 people gather to get a taste of the Newday youth event at the King's Centre. People came from all over Norfolk and Suffolk from all sorts of church backgrounds, some Newday veterans and some who had come to experience Newday for the first time.

Phatfish kicked things off with a time of powerful exciting worship which was followed by a great talk from Newday leader Joel Virgo. Joel encouraged the young people to get involved with Newday and gave a gospel message. Following this 10 young people responded to follow Jesus for the first time.

Phatfish

After a short break Phatfish launched into a concert showcasing some of the songs from the brilliant new 'In Jesus' album like 'Come to Jesus'; and some great Phatfish classics such as 'Holy Holy' and 'There is a Day'.

Before the event church and youth leaders from around the region attended a reception with Newday leaders to hear the vision behind the event and discuss the opportunity to get involved in the many social action outreach projects that take place. Last year saw around 3300 young people hit the streets of Norfolk and Suffolk to take part in projects such as fence painting, garden clearance, free car washes, kids clubs, puppet shows and street evangelism.

Rob Wicks, a Norwich police inspector, spoke at the leaders reception of the impact of our projects in Mile Cross. He spoke about local young people that he had known for the wrong reasons, joining in and picking up a paint brush, and how an area which had previously been a place of considerable difficulty had improved markedly, identifying the Newday outreach projects as being a contributory factor.

Newday are hoping to send out around 4000 young people for a week of social action outreach projects this year. For a chance to get involved and host a project at your church click on the GET INVOLVED page.

Newday will take place at the Royal Norfolk Showground on 11th - 16th August 2010. To book in or find out more visit www.newdaygeneration.org

Newday comes to Norfolk

Since it began the Newday youth event has seen thousands of young people travel, from all over the UK and overseas, to be part of community-based social action projects. Not only do they give up their time for a week to do this but they pay for the privilege!

Last year saw teams of young people hitting the streets of Norwich and Norfolk, in a variety of neighbourhoods, putting their faith into action in practical ways. This included litter picking, removing graffiti, gardening and hedge cutting. You'll find all the details of what happened on our projects page.
